A Day of Rock Picking

Today after milking, chicken chores, breakfast, plant watering, we went out to the field at home and started picking rock. I was tractor driver, so didn't get in on too much picking, but did climb off a few times. The rock was thick in places. Dave had to drag the field earlier, and thinks he drug up a bunch more rock. He had to drag because he had started planting the field, got about 10 acres planted, then it started raining. It rained so hard that a crust formed on top of the soil. The crust made it so the corn couldn't poke out of the ground. Dragging enable the crust to break up and let the corn come up.

Ryan showed up at 10:00 and helped pick till 3:00. He was sure a lifesaver for Dave today! Cory stopped and brought Dave beer from Wilmar. So much cheaper then around here. Rob was working today, so he stopped too, but we missed him. I made cheeseburgers on the grill for the boys.

It got up to 82 today. Finally some heat. Ry and I opened the windows and doors for the chicks, they were really warm.

Since I don't have any pictures of us picking rock, thought I would post one of my tomatoes poking out of their wall o waters. I am so happy with their progress.

Night milking, grilled steak, long hot bath..........bedtime.

Busy Friday

Today Dave and I decided while we milked that maybe we should go somewhere today. I wanted Marshall, I need yeast and bread flour and was hoping it was cheaper there. We ended up in Redwood because Dave had to go to the ASCS office. I went to the library, got some new books and maggies, life is good! Then on to Wally world to get material to make Caaryn's babies taggies for a shower present. We went to Pizza Ranch for dinner. That was yummy. We wanted to take Carter out for dinner, but he was at Daycare. After dinner went to the Nursery and got two new trees. One Zestar and the other Regant, also picked up a Haralson for Ryan and Robyn. We headed home, unloaded then Dave took a little snooze while I called and chatted up with Glenna for an hour. Just missed a storm, seriously by about a half mile. We got our trees planted, then after night milking headed up to Ry and Robyns to take them their tree. Dave and Ry planted the tree while Addisyn and I watched. She is getting so darn cute. Griffy sat outside and enjoyed the nice night with us too. Ry grilled us some brats and hamburgers.......yummy! Now, time for bed!

Yeah, no rock picking today!!!

Woke up this morning to rain. I love the sound of rain, especially if we were going to pick rock all day. As of now, we have a half inch of rain. Perfect timing for my garden again. This will give my strawberry plants the start they need. Plus I planted the sunflower seeds and muskmelon, so I just couldn't ask for anything better.

Chores were done, then Dave and I went down to the chicks and took their little brooder away and gave them more space. They are 7 days old today, and are learning they have little wings. I lost my first chick last night. He must have tried to fly over his pen and cut his wing. I guess I should have moved them out yesterday.

I had a dream last night that Dave was very mad at me, then I figured out it is because I have a bunch more flowers coming in the mail, which means I will be digging up more lawn. I am excited about the flowers, but not about Dave's reaction to me digging up more lawn.

Oh gosh, I'm tired

Today was another productive day here. This morning chores went without a hitch. Had a healthy breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast, then cows got let out, chickens got feed and watered, another cup of coffee drank, and off to pick rock. I drove the loader tractor and Dave sits on the bucket, then just jumps off when there is a rock to be picked. We did the ditch bank by Hanson's, no sitting for that, and the ditch bank at home, for sure no sitting there. By the time we were done, it was time to go home and have some dinner. I quick grilled hamburgers and we had coleslaw with that. A half hour nap and Dave took off on the 4-wheeler to pick the rest of Hanson's. I went out and got the lawn all mowed up. Looks so pretty when it is done. After that I planted 25 strawberry plants in the garden. I got Sparkle Junebearing plants this time. My garden is so dry, it was hard to plant them. Ryan stopped for a half hour, time for a cup of coffee, then back out to the garden. I also found a place to plant some muskmelon. I dug up the little spot by the truck shed and put cosmos seeds in there. I also dug around the brooder house and planted sunflower seeds. I am excited about that. I have never planted sunflowers before. Time for evening milking. Again, it all goes off without a hitch. While Dave milks I water some flowers and plant my hanging basket. After chores I put a chicken on the grill, took a shower, ate.....cleaned kitchen. Now it is bedtime.
