Sick little girl, wedding cakes, and a little hay

Somedays you have your life all planned, then the phone rings. Robyn called this morning and said Addisyn was sick last night and could I watch her. I had my day planned to get cakes decorated, but of course I could watch her. Turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, Addisyn was feeling better, so the two of us had a great day together. She helped me pick up hay in the field with Grandpa. She thought that was great fun. She sat on my lap and drove the truck. Then she helped with chicken chores, we went for a long 4 wheeler ride, played in the sandbox, swing in the hammock. She took a nap after dinner so I did get my cakes done. It was a good day. We are offically done with first crop hay. Now time to think about Kristy's wedding.

Where did that week go?

I can't believe it has been a week since I posted. I just got behind, then I get overwhelmed and say to heck with it.

Lots went on since last week. Monday night we got an inch and a half of rain in about an hour. There were tornado warns out all over. All that rain brought out the weeds in all the plant beds, so Wednesday I spent the day weeding everything, I think I went to marshall on Friday, yep, I did, cause it was lucky Friday the 13th sale at HyVee. Sat. I spent the day cooking for Father's day. Had all the boys home but Cory, he had to work. We ate good and got to play with all the little ones, so it was a fun day. I talked almost all the kids into the Got Milk contest through KLGR. Hopefully one of the babies will win. Last night Ry stopped in for a while. Dave baled hay and we got it picked up this morning. The hay went good. 1300 bales on 22 acres. Today I baked Kristy's wedding cake. Rob the cop stopped tonite for a chat. baby jack got tubes put in his ears this morning. Everything went well. Well, enough of this rambling. I promise, from now on I will try to post at least every other day. I felt bad for waiting so long. Feels like I lose that week of my life if I don't write down what we did.

A great day to be alive (that song is playing in my head)

Chores uneventful. This is the second day the cows were able to go outside during the night. Course, it is suppose to rain tomorrow, so I am sure they will end up back in the barn. It is so much more work for Dave when cows have to stay in the barn. He has to feed them silage with a cart in the morning, kick them out in the afternoon, clean barns, bed, put trainers up. Work, work, work......like I said, it is so nice when they can go out.

I worked in the yard pretty much all day. It was a beautiful sunny 70 degree day with hardly no wind. I trimmed the shrubs on the patio, lay down more paper and straw in the garden, weeded the daylillies along the buildings. Weeded everything in the garden that isn't mulched. I wanted to get my mulch in the flower garden done, but time ran out. Maybe if it doesn't rain tonite I can quick do that in the morning. That and plant my impatiens, which have been patiently waiting their turn to get into the ground.

Dave and I found some old chicken fountains to use tonite after chores. I have been filling up little gallon fountains, but they are drinking like 7 gallons of water a day now, so it was time to find bigger ones. I sat in there and took some pictures of them tonite. One I am calling a sea of chickens, the next one, she is totally giving me attitude, and the final one is of my pretty garden after it is all weeded.

I did some experiments in the garden today. I took the wall o waters off the early girls, put them on the tomatoes planted later. I left one on an early girl, see if it makes a difference in how early I get tomatoes. Also left one on a pepper.

Decided to carry a pale of cow manure to the compost pile every day. I need to get it going good.

Tired, bedtime.

Little bit of this, little bit of that

Spent an hour in the kitchen after chores this morning. I washed up some lettuce, cut up my cauliflower, made a new batch of sf jello, and mixed up the bread flour mixes for the next week. Then I went out and tried to do some gardening. Planted my flowers around the light pole and put in marigolds by the tool shed. Just so darned windy today, was horrible working outside. Dave wanted to spray but couldn't because of the rain, so instead he mowed a little bit. We had dinner, then basically just hung around till chores time. Caught up on my new tv shows.

I grilled us a nice tbone and salad for supper. After eating I saw that the sun was setting so pretty, so grabbed the camera and went for a walk in the grove. The trees were so pretty, they looked orange from the sunset. On the computer for a while, then off to bed.

Baby Shower for the twins

Today I got to take pictures of the twins for Jason and Caaryn. So much fun, they are so tiny and adorable. Then LaVonne had a baby shower for them. Got to visit with Jeannie, Terry, Vonne, the whole gang. Didn't get home till 4:00, missed Adam which made me sad. He was home for the weekend, and I didn't hardly get to see him at all.

Did chores, then Ry, Robyn, Griff, and Addisyn stopped for a visit. She is getting to be such a cutie pie. What a little chatter box she is getting to be. "Grandpa, sell the naughty bull".

Got in the house at 8:30, supper, play on the internet a bit then to bed early.

Had a quarter inch of rain again last night. No rain today.

Happy Day with the Babes

Today we had Carter and Jack. It was finally a beautiful day, no wind, 75, so we could play outside most of the day. Carter loves it outside. He is finally getting old enough where we can let him play without watching him every second. He stayed right out front and drove the little Johnny Popper around most of the day. Jack took a long nap, ate then played outside too.

Adam is home for the weekend, so Adam, Carter and I hopped on the 4-wheeler and went over to Goblirsch's open house for their robotic milkers. Pretty cool barn.

Dave gave the chickens the whole building today. So in a matter of 2 weeks, the are moved out of the circle, then moved into the whole building.

I talked Carter into letting me take a "got milk" picture for a contest our local radio station is doing. I made him a strawberry shake and he was a happy little camper and posed so good for me. I hope he wins. We are going to do Adam tomorrow.

Got me a new "do"

k
Today was haircut and color day. Man I need both! Feeling good now. Came home, made lunch, played on the computer for an hour, took an hour nap, basically wasted the day.

Wind was horrible today. Gusts up to 50 miles an hour. Just ate up my impatients.

Did a little house cleaning after chores. Tomorrow I have Carter and Jack. That will be fun. Adam is coming home for the weekend, so will be good to see him again. Don't know much else, just not a productive day.

Stormy Thursday

Today was my go bumming day. I love go bumming day almost as much as I love digging up the yard day. After chores and a quick breakfast off to Marshall. First stop truvalu, where I have to get Dave a dollars worth of stuff. I have a 5.00 off 25.00 coupon, so all I need to do is spend 24.00 more dollars to cash in my coupon. Mission Complete, I am now the proud owner of a floor fan, a neat thing to screw on the end of your hose to water things, and 3 more pkgs. of flower seed. You just got to love those coupons, all that for only 20.00.

On to Shopko, where I run into Marlys, Tom and Spencer. Have a little visit with them. Note to self, have them over some night to grill. I have baby presents to buy for the twins, then I find a shower curtain I like, buy 2, cause they are marked down and I can make curtains with the second one, 2 rugs, and I am 100.00 dollars poorer, but my bathroom sure will look nice!

Next, Walmart, take back all the brown I was going to do my bedroom in. Now it is Taupe, it is hard to find Taupe, what the hell is Taupe??? I found Taupe material, will be making the curtains for that room too. Got fun stuff in Walmart, like dog food, cat food, decongestant for my poor sinuses, oh yeah, and paint for the bathroom, so I can have a whole new room. Don't worry, there will be before and after pictures.

I hear the thunder in Walmart. All day long they have been saying look out for severe weather. After talking to Judy for 40 minutes in the store I figure I better high tail it for home. I made it and so far all we have gotten is a lot of rain, a lot of wind, and gloomy skies. Over an inch of rain. Oh, all those flowers I planted yesterday are going to love this weather!

Of course my shopping trip wouldn't be complete without more flowers. I got 8 more impatiens, just because you can't have too much of that beautiful vibrant color. 8 Salvia and 8 dusty miller for around the light pole. I have to hide them from Dave, he is threatening to hide my spade. I have orders, "no more digging up the yard."

Today my chickens are 2 weeks old today. They have eaten 100 lbs of feed, so it took l lb a chicken for the first 14 days. I will post a picture of them tomorrow. The pictures today are just to prove we got an inch of rain today. The other is my flower basket in front of the house. I love red and purple.

I have too much energy lately

I'm not complaining, I am getting so much work done, but all this energy is starting to scare me and I know it is scaring Dave. I went out to the garden at 10:00 and worked outside for over 6 hours. I got my compost out of the old bin adam and I made and I sprinkled it on my strawberries, green peppers, pumpkins, cukes. I replanted 2 potatoe plants that were growing in the wrong rows, then I star started on the flower garden. I dug out all but one yellow and one purple iris and replanted them by the honeysuckles. I planted all my plants I got from the internet. I will post the names of them tomorrow, I am just too tired tonite.

I had a scare today. I walked into the chicken barn and there was Cora (the cat) sitting on a hay bale licking her paws clean. I thought "oh boy, how many babies did she kill"? The chicks were all laying around like they were as calm as could be, so I think Cora just sat and watched them. Good thing I feed that cat well!

Dave worked on his stacker all morning. Rob stopped for a little while. I cheated and made cold sandwiches for supper, just too tired to cook.

Very humid today, but no rain yet. They are talking severe weather for tomorrow. Off to Marshall tomorrow.

Gloomy, gloomy weather

I missed a day, computer acting up yesterday. I didn't get much accomplished yesterday. We had three tenths of rain Monday night, enough to stop my working in the flower garden. Today I am going to clean out my compost from last year and get my bins cooking with some new compost. I did do some laundry, though the basket with clean clothes is sitting on my dining room table, so I didn't finish what I started. I am good at that, though I am getting better. I try hard to finish my projects now. Last night I made my low carb shepards pie. I love that recipe! Today I start my walking program. I have to start exercising more, that is all there is to it. Well, better get my day started. I didn't take any pictures yesterday, and I'm sure nobody wants to see a picture of my laundry, so I will post an old favorite, or two.

It's an Advil night!

Worked in my garden for 5 hours today. I put up a little hoop house for my cabbage, so worms can't lay their eggs, then I put down paper and straw, no weeding for this chicky. I also put down straw on my pumpkins and some of my tomatoes. I weeded the onions, lettuce, so all I have left to weed is peas and around the wall o waters. I am one tired girl. Tomorrow I want to work in my flower bed, and get my perennials planted. I want to bring the leaf mold from the grove and use it for mulch in my flowers. I think it looks pretty nice and will sure help keep the weeds down. I also want to use up the last of my compost on my strawberries.

Got my first food out of the garden. I made a salad with my lettuce thinings and also had some radishes. Yummy. Well, bedtime for this chick

Sunday

Today we got our chores done, then Dave headed out to the grove to mow and I shoveled out the house and made it look respectable again. After a quick dinner Dave took a nap and I made cookies, buns and Brandiberry salad. Cory and Stacy came for a visit and a wash machine. Later on Rob and Bex and the boys stopped, Ry, Robyn, Addisyn and Griff came right after them. We sat outside a played with the kids. Chores, then they all headed home. Another quiet supper, played on the internet a bit, then off to bed.
